十勝川の氷『ジュエリーアイス』
氷の塊が太陽の光を受けて美しく輝く様子が宝石のようであることから名付けられた。 1月中旬から2月下旬、十勝川を覆いつくす氷が太平洋に流れ出し、河口付近の大津海岸に打ち上げられて発生する。 朝は朝日のオレンジ色に体を染め、昼はまるでダイヤモンドのように白くキラキラと輝く。夕日は静けさと共に詩的な情緒を演出し、どの時間も違う魅力がある。 女性やカメラマンに人気が高い。近くには休憩所があるので安心して楽しめる。
The name comes from the way the blocks of ice sparkle beautifully in the sunlight like jewels. From mid-January to late February, ice covering the Tokachi River flows into the Pacific Ocean and gets washed up on the Otsu coast near the river mouth. It turns into orange color of the morning sun in the morning, and it shines white like a diamond in the afternoon. The setting sun creates a poetic atmosphere with tranquility, and the jewels show off a different charm at any time of the day. This place is especially popular with women and photographers. There is also a rest area nearby, so you can take your time to stay as the color of the jewels change.

Lake Akan is one of the most beautiful lakes in Eastern Hokkaido, surrounded by the primeval forest of Akan-Mashu National Park. Several hot spring inns are lined up on the lake side, and many tourists visit for the Akanko hot spring. In one corner of this hot spring town, there is a village called Lake Akan Ainu Kotan where the Ainu people, the indigenous people of Japan, creates crafts and arts. The folk crafts and the local restaurants are lined up to convey the Ainu culture. "Anytime, Ainutime!" is a tour to enjoy nature walks and crafting guided by the Ainu people who have been living here with a respect for the nature.

Washo Market near JR Kushiro Station. Katte-don, which literally means “selfish seafood bowl”, is an original Kushiro dish of raw seafood served on a bed of rice. It is very popular among tourists. First, you order a bowl of rice, then walk around the market where it is full of fresh seafood.Once you find your favourite fishmonger, and select your favourite ingredients such as sea urchin, salmon roe, prawns and scallops, then you can eat your delicious bowl of sashimi on the spot! Choosing delicious toppings just as you please is no doubt a “selfish” Katte-don.
冬になると餌を求め、人里に舞い降りるタンチョウ。アイヌ語でサルルンカムイと呼ばれ、神聖なものとされていた。翼を広げると２メートルを優に超える日本で一番大きくて美しい鳥である。一時は絶滅したと考えられるほど数が減っていたが、地元の人たちの保護活動によりよみがえった。現在、日本のタンチョウは北海道東部にのみ住んでおり、ここでは多い時で３００羽を超える野生のタンチョウが羽を休める姿をみることができる。
その優雅な舞姿に寒さも忘れる。
Red-crowned cranes fly down to towns and villages in search of food in winter. They were called Sarurun Kamuy (God of the wetlands) in the Ainu language and were considered sacred. With a wingspan of well over 2m (6.6ft), they are beautiful and the largest birds in Japan. Once they were feared to be extinct; however, they have continued to breed thanks to the conservation efforts of the local people. Today, red-crowned cranes that can be seen in Japan live only in Eastern Hokkaido, and you can see over 300 wild red-crowned cranes resting their wings at peak times.
You will forget the cold once you witness their graceful dance.
港町である根室市。頭上からカモメの鳴き声が響き、磯の香りを感じる風が、ひがし北海道をたっぷりと感じさせ、心が浮き立つ。さらに旅を盛り上げてくれるのが新鮮な魚介の数々。丸々とした根室産サンマの塩焼きはぜひ注文してみたいところ。日本中の食通が集まる花咲ガニも大人気。新鮮な魚介料理をつまみながら、地酒「北の勝」をちびりも贅沢このうえない。
また、「春国岱・風蓮湖」は、周囲を湿原、森林、砂丘に囲まれ変化に富む自然環境が広がり、国内で観察される野鳥のうち半数以上を観察することができ、タンチョウ、クマゲラ、オジロワシが繁殖するなど、国内有数の野鳥の楽園として知られている。
In the port city of Nemuro, the sounds of seagulls echoing overhead and the ocean-scented breeze will give you a taste of Eastern Hokkaido. The variety of fresh seafood will further enliven your trip. Be sure to try the meaty salt-grilled saury here. Hanasaki crabs, attracting foodies from all over Japan, are also must-eat. Drinking the local sake ""Kita no Katsu'' with fresh seafood dishes is the ultimate luxury.
Nemuro is also full of rich nature. Shunkunitai and Lake Furen are surrounded by wetlands, forests, and sand dunes, creating a diverse natural environment. More than half species of the wild birds in Japan can be observed here, and it is known as a wild bird sanctuary, with cranes, black-crowned woodpeckers, and white-tailed eagles breeding here.
北海道・十勝平野、広大な大自然の真ん中、帯広市にある屋台村「北の屋台」。
焼き鳥・串焼き・居酒屋・フレンチ・中華・韓国料理やおばんざいなど、個性豊かな20軒の屋台が、軒を並べます。農業王国・十勝ならではの食材を利用した、さまざまなメニューを味わいながら、隣席や店主とのふれあいを楽しめる空間です。
月・火・金・土曜日には、北の屋台の前をばん馬ムサシコマが曳く馬車ツアー「馬車BAR」が走ります。「馬車BAR」に乗るもよし、北の屋台から眺めるもよしの非日常体験が味わえます。
Kita no Yatai is a food stall village located in Obihiro, in the middle of the bountiful nature of the Tokachi Plain. There are 20 unique food stalls lined up, including chicken skewers, pubs, French, Chinese, and Korean food. It is a fun space where you can interact with the locals and the owners while tasting a variety of dishes using ingredients produced in the agricultural kingdom of Tokachi.
On Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, the carriage bar called "Basha BAR'', pulled by a retired banei racehorse, runs in front of the village. You can have an extraordinary experience by riding the carriage bar or viewing it from the stall.
氷点下に凍てつく十勝川温泉にて開催される冬の夜の一大ページェント「彩凛華®」は、十勝川温泉に毎年飛来する白鳥にちなんで開催されるお祭りです。音と光を連動させて、幻想的な空間を演出するファンタジックショーです。会場と温泉街を結ぶ「光のアリー」には幻想的な「冬桜」が設置され、観光客にも人気のスポットとなっています。

Sairinka®, a major winter night pageant held at Tokachigawa Onsen, is a festival based on the theme of the swans that come to Tokachigawa Onsen every year. The show, which combines sound and light to create a fantastical space, is a must-see. A fantastic winter cherry blossom tree, placed in the "Alley of Light" that connects the venue and the hot spring town, is one of the most popular spots for tourists.

完全に結氷した冬の然別湖に氷と雪だけでつくられる1～3月の期間限定の幻の村、「しかりべつ湖コタン」。細部までこだわったイグルーは芸術とも言えるほど立派で、氷の彫刻を見ているだけでも楽しめます。コタン内にはBarや氷上露天風呂があります。極寒地用のシュラフ（寝袋）を使用して、雪と氷のベッドの上で眠るアイスロッジ体験では日常の喧騒から離れて、ゆっくりと自然と向き合うひと時が過ごせます。夜になるとライトアップもされ、幻想的な世界に吸い込まれること間違いなしです。
Shikaribetsuko Kotan, a phantom village created only from ice and snow on completely frozen Lake Shikaribetsu in winter, appears only for a limited time from January to March. The igloos and ice sculptures are finely detailed works of art which drags you into a mysterious world. The village also has a bar made of ice and an open-air bath on ice. Spending the night in a cold region-specialized sleeping bag on a bed of snow at the ice lodge lets you get away from the bustles of everyday life and brings you a relaxing moment. The entire village is lit up at night to make a magical atmosphere around you.
リフト運行が休業中の北大雪スキー場を、圧雪車に乗り込み滑走口まで上がると、そこには日本有数のパウダースノー。山岳ガイドの案内によるバックカントリースキー/スノーボードを存分に楽しめます。滑らない方向けの遊覧ツアーもあります。さらにこの町では、白滝の大雪原を馬の背に乗り、ガシガシ進む乗馬体験もできます。インストラクターが同行し、初心者の方でも安心です。踏み跡の無い、真っ白なバージンスノー体験を味わうことができます。
Riding on a snow compaction vehicle and going up to the runway of Kita Taisetsu Ski Resort whose operations are currently closed, high-quality powder snow spreads before your eyes. Enjoy backcountry skiing and snowboarding with a mountain guide. It also offers a sightseeing tour for those who don't ski. Furthermore, it offers a horseback riding experience in the snowy fields of Shirataki. This activity is accompanied by an instructor so that even beginners can try. Have fun going into the pure virgin snow where there is no footprints.

通年で本物の流氷やクリオネ・オオカミウオの稚魚など、オホーツク海の生物を展示。また、2023年1月に一部リニューアルを行い、３６０度パノラマ流氷海中ライブ等の展示物がレベルアップ。通年で本物の流氷に触れられる流氷体感テラスでは、マイナス15℃の室内で、濡れたタオルを振り回して凍らせる「しばれ体験」が目玉。
ここでしか味わえない塩キャラメル味の流氷ソフトクリームは年中大人気（北海道民は冬こそアイスクリームを食べる）。
オホーツク流氷館が位置する天都山は、国の文化財「名勝」に指定されており、屋上の展望台からはオホーツク海の流氷や世界自然遺産知床の山々が一望できる。
It exhibits creatures from the Sea of Okhotsk including real drift ice, juvenile clione and wolffish throughout the year. It was renewed in January 2023, and the exhibits such as the 360-degree panoramic drift ice live show have been upgraded. In the Drift Ice Experience Terrace, where you can touch the real drift ice, lets you have "Shibare Experience" that you freeze a wet towel by swinging it around in a temperature of -15 degs Celsius (5 degs Fahrenheit).
The salted caramel-flavored drift ice soft serve ice cream, sold only here, is quite popular all year round. (The residents of Hokkaido eat ice cream even in winter.)
Mt. Tento, where the Okhotsk Ryu-hyo Museum is located, is designated as a national cultural property. From the rooftop observatory you can view the drift ice in the Sea of Okhotsk and the mountains of Shiretoko which is a world natural heritage site.
100年以上前の明治23年（1890年）から、実際に網走刑務所で使用されてきた建物を保存公開している野外歴史博物館。当時、人口631人の網走に囚人1,200名と看守173名が送り込まれ、北海道開拓の先兵を演じた方々の歴史を感じることができる。
2015年2月には舎房及び中央見張り所、庁舎、教誨堂、網走刑務所二見ヶ岡刑務支所の2件8棟が国の重要文化財に指定された。
また、監獄食堂では、現在の網走刑務所で実際に提供されている食事をいただくことができるだけでなく、“鉄丸体験”や“もっこ体験（写真のとおり）”など、過去の服役中の様子の一部を体験することができる。
It's an open-air history museum that preserves and displays buildings that were actually used at Abashiri Prison since 1890. 1,200 prisoners and 173 guards were sent to Abashiri which had a population of 631 back then. Here you can feel the history of the people who served as vanguards in the development of Hokkaido.
In February 2015, the cells, central guardhouse, government building, rectory, and Futamigaoka Penal Branch of Abashiri Prison were designated as important cultural properties of the country.
The prison cafeteria provides meals that are actually served at the current Abashiri Prison. You can also learn about the way the past prisoners were forced to work through walking experience with iron fetters and carrying a busket of earth and rocks (as shown in the photo).
国後島に向かって突き出た冬の野付半島は、片方の海は遠浅の海が凍りついて白い大地と化し、もう片方の海には流氷が迫り、日本の風景とはとても思えない世界が広がります。
しかも360°《真白い地平線のように見える実は真白い水平線》なので芥川賞作家桜木柴乃さんの短編小説にちなんで《氷平線》と呼んでいます。
『日本のウユニ塩湖』とも呼ばれ死ぬまでに行ってみたい風景のひとつです。無限の白の世界に。

The Notsuke Peninsula juts out toward Kunashiri Island. During severe winter, the shallow sea on one side freezes and turns into a white land, and drift ice approaches to the coast on the other side. The world is nothing like you'd expect to see in Japan.
The horizon covered with pure white snow and ice was named the "Ice Horizon'' by a famous Japanese novelist.
The infinite white world, also known as "Japan's Salar de Uyuni,'' is a must-visit.
It is popular on social media as a spot for taking trick art photos.

"I wish I could walk on drift ice." The Drift Ice Walk © will make that dream come true. You should actually never step on drift ice due to the risk of falling into the cold sea. It's the only zoo in Japan where red foxes and Ezo raccoon dogs live freely. You can see their cute behavior as they nap, groom themselves, eat, and play with one another. Their fur becomes more fluffy during the cold season, making them even more adorable! They definitely warm your heart!
Another popular facility in the Onneyu area is "Yama no Aquarium,'' which exhibits the world's first "Tank of the Four Seasons". The tank allows you to observe fish moving around actively in the summer and fish living under the frozen water surface in the winter. It tells you a story of fish in Hokkaido's changing seasons. There are also many exhibits that are creatively presented such as Japan's first "Waterfall Basin Fish Tank"!

Abashiri is a major producing area of beer barley. Ryuhyo Draft is a low-malt beer that uses drift ice from the Sea of Okhotsk as its brewing water. The bright blue beer, colored with the natural pigment gardenia, is reminiscent of the Sea of Okhotsk. Its neat and refreshing taste is great even in winter.
日本有数の帆立の水揚げ量を誇る北見市。北見市のおススメのお土産は、ほたての加工品を製造している「帆立屋しんや」の「ほたて燻油漬」。常呂産の帆立を自然塩で釜茹でし、軽く燻製をかけ、こだわりの植物油に漬け込みしっとりと仕上げた老舗の名品。
Kitami has one of the largest catches of scallops in Japan. A recommended souvenir from Kitami is the scallops pickled in smoked oil from "Hotateya Shinya,'' which manufactures processed scallop products. This long-established masterpiece is made by boiling scallops caught in Tokoro in a pot with natural salt, lightly smoking them, and marinating them in fine vegetable oil.
地元民から愛されているパン・菓子店ダニエル・ドゥ・ノウが販売する「流氷ラスク」。アムール川河口付近で誕生する流氷をイメージした手作りラスクは、網走産の小麦を使ったサクサクのラスクに、ホワイトチョコレートをコーティングした一品。常温で持ち帰ることができる。
The "Ryuhyo Rusk'' is sold by Daniel de Nou, a popular bakery and confectionery shop in the area. It is made in the image of the drift ice that forms near the mouth of the Amur River. It's a crispy rusk made from Abashiri wheat, coated in white chocolate. It can be kept at room temperature, so it's convenient to take out.
